I tried Sun Crystals this weekend, as well as tried Truvia and Purevia. The latter were fine, and I do not usually partake of artificial sweeteners. But Sun Crystals was horrid, had to spit repeatedly in the sink and rinse my mouth out. It was absolutely horrid.

We fully review the research surrounding stevia in the two subsequent articles on this subject. You may want to read them to understand the research picture more fully.

We do not assume natural substances are inherently less dangerous than artificial ones. Using past research as a guide, we could make that hypothesis but we still maintain a neutral stance on the issue.

No offense, but this seems a bit bias. The problem is there is research on both sides. Some research shows no harm, and some shows that it is harmful. Is the FDA suppose to ban any substance that has potential harm in it? No... for example:
In the above article from the New York Times, it states to consume dangerous amounts of the sweetener you would have to drink 30 bottles of soda. Well if you drink 30 bottles of soda with sugar and no artificial sweeteners in it you will have some serious medical problems too.
Just because something is based on nature doesn't mean it is safe. I think a lot of it is determining rather or not these substances are at least as safe as the substances they are replacing.

Samantha -

Truvia and purevia are based on stevia compounds. Because they are heavily processed and combined with other ingredients that are not allowed under the organic specifications, they will never be organic. If you want pure stevia, you must go to the health store and buy it as a supplement because it is still illegal to sell it as a straight sweetener.

Caffeine is known to open capilaries in the brain, so some naturally caffeinated herbal teas (like green tea) may reduce the pressure you feel when you get headaches.
